This album came from my outrage, anger, and sadness caused by the rise in brutality, intolerance and authoritarianism in this country. I was determined to turn these energies into constructive action, and to help reinforce and restore a sense of hope, decency and humanity to our communities. This album reflects the ire, frustration, and resolution of artists and musicians in the Greater Washington DC area, who share with me a desire to take action. We are eager to speak out against hatred, racism, sexism, and bigotry. And to speak in favor of a more humanitarian world. We can do better than this.
I met the musicians on this album through a musical series I host at The New Deal Café in Greenbelt Md, called Kim’s Grand Rounds. This is where artists of all kinds convene to regenerate their spirit, reconnect with others, strengthen their resolution, and say no to oppression. I wish to thank every artist who agreed to be part of this resistance.
